I’m an overpacker. Chances are good that if you need something while in the parks, if you find me I’ve got it in my bag. I hate paying inflated prices for simple things when I can bring them into the park so when I heard Disney was coming up with a way to take a few things out of my bag, I was excited.

Magic Bands – these waterproof bands are your new Key to the World. From purchasing to room keys, you’ll need this during your Disney vacation.
Park Ticket – admission to a Walt Disney World Resort theme park.
FastPass+ – a reservation of sorts that allows you to visit an attraction at a predetermined time to help you avoid spending hours in line for an attraction.
Extra Magic Hours – a benefit of staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel is being able to enter a theme park early or stay later than other guests.
On property – another way to say that you’re staying at a Disney hotel during your vacation.
To gain entry to any of the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, you’ll need a valid park ticket. When you’re staying on site, those tickets will be on your MagicBand. Simply scan them at the turnstiles along with your fingerprint and you’re ready for a day of fun.
Disney resort rooms can be opened with your MagicBand. Match the Mickey head on your Magic Band to Mickey head on the gray rectangle on your door and you’ll be able to gain access to your room.
Before you head out to the parks you can schedule FastPass+ options for your family to shorten your wait time. If you’re in the parks, simply visit a FastPass+ kiosk to select FastPass+ options and load them to your Magic Bands. Once you arrive at your selected attraction at the assigned time, you’ll press Mickey’s head on your MagicBand to the Mickey head on the post just like you did to enter the parks.
As if all those other perks weren’t enough, you can also make purchases with your Magic Band. Upon checking in to your Disney resort, you’ll be asked to select a pin number for your group to use when making a purchase similar to a pin you’d use with a debit card when making a purchase at another retailer. Like all other transactions with your MagicBand, you’ll tap Mickey’s head to the Mickey head on the device at the counter and be prompted to enter your pin number.
Things to Keep in Mind
Lost bands – if your MagicBand becomes misplaced, report it to Cast Members at Guest Services immediately. With that band, another guest could access your park tickets, resort room and make purchases if they guessed the correct pin number.
Adjustable – MagicBands have the ability to be adjusted to various sizes to fit most Disney guests. There’s a gray outer portion of the band that is removable to make the bands fit easier on guests with smaller wrists.
Waterproof – when you’re touring the amazing attractions at Walt Disney World, chances are you will get wet or sweat (or maybe both). No need to worry about your MagicBand. They’re completely waterproof and safe to wear during your entire vacation.
