Welcome to this month’s Blogorail Blue Loop. Today we are sharing some must have items for your Disney resort room.
You’ve been thinking about this day for months. Visions of your family at the Magic Kingdom watching the morning welcome show and waving to the characters. But first you’ve got to put on the adorable matching outfits you’ve packed for everyone and get to the park. Some mornings this is easier said than done. After rifling through suitcases and piles on the floor, you all manage to get dressed but not as planned. With a little bit of organization, mornings can go more smoothly.
Use what’s there.
Each of the Walt Disney World Resorts have some kind of cabinet with drawers to put your clothes in. Throw some tissue paper in your suitcase if you want to put it down in the drawers first. The rooms should also have a stand to put your suitcase on. If you’re using your suitcase to hold your clothes, putting it on the stand to keep it off the floor can be helpful too.
Pack with organization in mind.
Before you leave home, consider packing with your end result in mind. Long days in the parks followed by early morning means sleepily digging through to find clothes. Zip top bags can keep outfits together so each morning you just grab a bag and that’s what you wear for the day. You can even number them if outfits coordinate or grab a bag to throw in your park bag if you need an extra outfit. Even just layering outfits in your suitcase so you can just reach in and grab the next day’s clothes can be helpful.
Hanger are helpful.
My little one loves to help choose her outfit and that’s certainly the case when we’re at Disney. Having her outfits all hung together lets her see the options without digging through everything in a drawer or suitcase. Loop headband or hair ties over the hook of the hanger to complete the look.
Bathrooms get chaotic.
With five of us in a room, things can get a little chaotic in the mornings when we’re all trying to get ready. I pack things in zip top bags for each of the kids so there’s no fighting over who had what toothbrush or comb or whatever. Everything else stays right in the bag we brought it all in. I use a Thirty One bag that just sit on the bathroom sink or even the shelf underneath to be more out of the way.
Designate areas.
If you’re collecting dirty clothes, decide on a spot right away. Bringing a pop up hamper to contain the clothes could be helpful as well. Shoes also seem to wind up all over our room. Having a spot to put them all can keep you from tripping over them or frantically searching for them when it’s time to head out.

These are all tips that I can relate to as a fellow family of 5. I am really particular about keeping our room nice and organized – otherwise, it would be pure chaos!
I love your tip about packing the clothes in ziplock bags! It would be easier to see if you packed everything before leaving home.
Designated areas are soooo helpful. Even when it’s just two people! 🙂
You and I unpack alike. I am not on vacation until everything is unpacked and organized for the upcoming trip. It makes the room just a bit homier to me.
This is so opposite of how I usually do things… You’ve made me want to be a better unpacker/traveler! LoL!
Great tips! I HATE having to pull out my luggage every time I need something. I’m not the most organized person in the world (by a long shot) but the first thing I HAVE to do when I get into the hotel is put stuff in drawers, hang stuff up, etc. Thanks for some new ideas!
We always bring a shoe caddy that hangs from a closet rod to keep our shoes in. We also take a sweater shelf that hangs from a closet rod to keep the kids’ ziplock bags (with their clothes inside) in. This gives us more drawer space. A cube tote folds flat and helps keeps hints from being all over the flat surfaces in our room.
I took a cheaper sweater and shoe/purse organizer (the hangable kind from a closet rod), and some cheaper collapsible totes. They weren’t the best quality, but we only needed them for 9 days. I packed snacks instead of using the online grocer (have a kid with a severe food allergy, so I needed to be able to read labels myself), and when I unpacked, I fixed several smaller bags of snacks for each day in the park. These zip locks stored easily in the smaller shoe/purse oranizer, along with giving each kid a spot to park their souvenirs in the evening.
The totes were for storing shoes under the sink, and any various other bulky items, plus a couple small ones on the counter to keep toiletries in.
Pack clothespins!! The bathrooms will have a retractable clothesline in the shower, but having the pins makes it so much easier to hang wet swimsuits!
We used the dining plan, so for our kids drink each night with their meal, I had them pick a milk or bottled gatorade. Then we would use the refillable mugs and take the bottled drinks back to our room. Milk was great for cereal in the morning in room, and gatorade were handy to take to the parks.
