Don’t let a little bit of rain stand in the way of a day with Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom! I’ve got some ideas for ways to enjoy the rain while still having fun.
Welcome to this month’s Blogorail Orange Loop. Today we are sharing the best Disney attractions to visit if it’s a rainy day at Disney.
Depending on where you are in the park or how long it’s raining, you may not need all these ideas so feel free to choose what best fits your needs.
Quick Rain Showers
If there are just a few drops, check out a variety of indoor attractions that are short like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin or The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s a small world and The Haunted Mansion are also good bets when the rain clouds blow through. Just remember to cover up your strollers while you go enjoy your attractions so they are still dry when you come back out.
The rain, rain, rain came down, down, down…
Sometimes the rain showers just don’t let up, stop by some of the longer shows and attractions to stay dry and still make the most of your day. Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress and Mickey’s PhilharMagic are great shows you can enjoy even when it’s raining. Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, Walt Disney World Railroad and the Liberty Square Riverboat give you the best of both worlds – the fun of an attraction but you’re still able to stay dry. Hall of Presidents will also keep you dry (and has great covered stroller parking!) during a storm.
Many of the characters now meet in covered areas. Mickey and Tinker Bell meet in Town Square Theater near the front of the park, Anna, Elsa and the other princesses meet at Princess Fairytale Hall and some of the Fab 5 meet back in the Storybook Circus area at Pete’s Silly Sideshow. Use this time to see some characters you might not have made time for otherwise during your vacation.
There’s no shortage of things to buy while you’re at Disney. Instead of spending your sunny park time shopping, check out the shops while the weather is less than ideal. Main Street, U. S. A.’s Emporium is a great place to check out because the shops are all connected on each side of the street.
Another thing you can do to avoid the rain is stop for a snack or meal. Pinocchio’s Village Haus is always a fun spot. You can grab your meal and get a spot near the window to watch people riding it’s a small world. Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe is another fabulous spot to grab something to eat. Lots of food options and lots of seating mean it may be crowded but there’s lots of room for everyone escaping the weather.
If rain is forecast during your day, be sure to bring a poncho for you (and your stroller if needed). They are sold in the parks but can be pretty pricey. Some of the attractions can also be chilly if you’re wet from the rain so a sweater or jacket can be helpful. Puddle jumping can also mean squishy shoes. Throw in a pair of flip flops to wear during the rain or another pair to switch into after the rain’s stopped so your fun doesn’t have to. On days where there is a lot of rain in the forecast, consider bringing a complete outfit change to save you from going back to your resort to change out of wet clothes. Storing all these things in zip top bags to keep them dry is also helpful. You can use the empty bags to store your wet items after you’ve changed to get them back to your room without soaking everything else in your bag. Some attractions and shows can also be closed if the storm is severe so be sure to keep that in mind as well. Be sure to also check before leaving the park if it’s still storming. Not all transportation will be running if lightening has been spotted within a certain distance so boats and monorails will not be available during those times.
