Are you recovering from a long weekend too? We’re all moving a little slower this morning trying to get back on track. It’s only been a couple of days since we were running off to work and school in the morning but it seems like so much longer than it has been. All this craziness got me thinking about how we feel when we come back from our Disney trips.
Our routine on the last day is usually to head to the Magic Kingdom for a last ride on anything before we leave. We usually only spend a couple of hours there before we head off to Downtown Disney to grab anything we can’t live without until our next trip. Then the hardest part begins – the drive home. After a stop for lunch, the kids will usually crash for a little bit while I try to figure out dates for our next trip (it’s so much easier to leave knowing when you’ll be back!).
Eventually we get home and that’s when the craziness begins. Normally we try to be home about dinner time so we have enough time to get the necessities done before crashing for the night. The van gets unloaded and once the suitcase(s) comes it, I start laundry while unpacking everything else. Any food (especially the cold stuff) get put away. Everything else can be left for another night when there’s more time and everyone’s not exhausted. When we travel during the school year, we’ve got normal “school night” things to get finished like laying clothes out, signing agenda books and packing lunches. By the time that’s all done, beds are calling and everyone heads off without too much of a fight.
For me, the first night home isn’t too bad. It’s the following couple of nights that are so much worse. Jumping back into “reality” is so much more exhausting than a day at Disney and it all catches up with you. By the second night home, I’m ready to crawl in bed myself once I get the kids down. Depending on what’s happening, I try to wait to unpack everything until the following weekend when I can tackle it and get everything put away correctly without having to move it multiple times.
How do you recover from your Disney trip? What’s your routine when you get home?
