While I’m awake at night thinking about things I can’t forget to pack before our next vacation, my husband has the mindset of “you can get it there if you forgot it”. My problem is I hate spending money on something that I’ve already got sitting at home so I try to remember to bring everything. Even with all my planning and list making, I always manage to forget something.
In the Parks
You’re enjoying a Mickey Bar with the family after your spin on Dumbo and are starting to get a headache. After looking through your park bag, you realize you left your pain relievers back in your resort room. Don’t worry – many of the shops in the park carry the basic remedies. It may not be your preferred brand, and it will certainly be more expensive, but it will do the trick to get you back to your own supplies in your room. When you’re looking for some kind of medicine, always start at the cash register. Most items are kept behind the register so save yourself some time and start there. If things are too serious or the over the counter meds aren’t helping, stop at Guest Services or the designated medical services area for the park to get treatment. Winding up in the hospital is not a magical end to your vacation. Many of the shops also carry things like sunscreen and fans to help you cool off on those hot days. Clothing and shoes aren’t at a shortage either if an accident occurs. If you’re looking for something and need help locating something, ask a Cast Member. They’ll help you find the best option to resolve your situation as quickly and painlessly as possible.
At the Resorts
Each resort has at least one gift shop area where you’ll be able to find some basic medications and supplies if you’ve forgotten something. Here’s where not all things are created equal. In our experience value resorts have a limited selection of just about everything. This is likely because there’s limited space in the shops. Moderate resorts do have a bigger selection within their shops while deluxe resorts have an even better selection. Resorts that have the biggest selection in our experience are those that offer Disney Vacation Club (DVC) accommodations. It might be a little more out of your way to find something but if you can find what you need running in to a deluxe resort on the way back to your resort it might be your best bet. Some resorts even have complimentary items like toothbrushes or mouth wash if you ask at the front desk.
Disney tries it’s best to make you forget the real world exists during your vacation (which I appreciate very much!) but without too much of a drive, you can find Target, Walmart, drug stores and gas stations that will certainly have what you’re looking for if you’re not able to find it on property. Remember that you’re in a tourist area so things are going to be more pricey than you might expect and you might also find things in unexpected places. For example, I’ve run in to a drugstore to grab ice for a cooler with the intention of making a stop at another store for other items but was able to find everything right in the drug store. Guests without a car can use delivery services to have items delivered right to their resort. Places like Garden Grocer allow you to place an order online or from your smart phone, pay and will deliver your items right to you.
Never fear, even if you forget something, you’ll be able to find it during your vacation. What items do you always seem to forget when you’re packing?
