I love a long weekend as much as the next person. Some of you may know that I had planned on being at Disney this weekend for Star Wars Weekend. After some hotel craziness and looking at the crowds on Touring Plans, hubby and I decided it would be fine to just stay home this weekend and go next weekend (our original plan) instead. Since people here thought we were going to be out of town, we didn’t have any plans or commitments for the weekend and I was thrilled at the prospect of having three days to try and get caught up as well as find some time to just relax (something I’m not very good at). I’ve been going, going, going the past few months and it’s really started to catch up with me so I was trying to approach this weekend as a time to try and pull everything together and get back to some normalcy and get some routines together.
Hubby and I had agreed that we would get the house cleaned Friday night so we wouldn’t have to worry about that over the weekend. Each summer and fall we seem to get ants in the house and have to spray around the house outside and inside to get rid of them. I wanted to get the spray cleaned up inside and give the house a good scrub since it really needed one. We moved the furniture out of the playroom and kitchen into the living room and I started scrubbing the floors while hubby went to pick Carter up from daycare and pick pizza up for dinner. Sorry for the pictures….they’re from my phone. (Do you spot Corbin?) 🙂
The boys watched Chicken Little while I finished the floors with a bit of help from hubby. With all the furniture loaded back into the appropriate spot, I lost all motivation to clean anything else and crawled to bed.
Saturday morning started out like any other morning at our house…the kids were up at the crack of dawn (they’re both generally up by 5:30) and ready to take on the world. Hubby had stopped at Target Friday night to pick up an inflatable pool to replace the one we got rid of last year. We filled it up Saturday morning so it would be ready to go for the kiddos when we got done running some errands. I’d wanted to go garage saling and get some other stuff done but by the time the pool had filled up, it was pretty late in the morning. We headed over to Kroger to get some grocery shopping done then it was back home to play in the pool and get the groceries put away. While I was checking out at Kroger, the boys headed down to Blockbuster to rent a couple of games and I knew I’d get no more work out of them for the weekend. 🙂 Corbin’s girlfriend’s family (they’ve been married since last year when they kissed on the bus because “when you kiss on the lips it means you’re married” according to my six year old) invited us over for a cookout at their house Saturday night. We’d been trying to get together with them for a couple of years now and with everyone’s crazy schedules it’s proven to be a challenge. Thankfully we were able to go and were so honored to be their first guests at their new house to eat on their patio with them and look out over the golf course.
The kids all had a great time together and it was nice to spend time with them. They are just so great – funny, down to Earth and just good people to have in your lives. Their family’s growing very soon – Miss Shay’s baby is due on June 20th so it was great to spend time with them before things got crazy with a new little one.
Sunday was supposed to be our “lazy” day but I don’t think it really worked out that way. Corbin’s girlfriend Emily came over for a play date and again, the kids had a great time!
I cleaned around the house a bit and tried to work on some projects that I knew needed to get done but I’ve been putting off because I knew they’d be a bit of work to get done. Here’s some of the PTO stuff I worked on this weekend:
Here’s a scrapbook page I made for Miss Shay from her “big sister” party the kids in Corbin’s class threw for Emily last weekend:
After the play date, the kids went back to playing Lego Pirates of the Caribbean and Family Game Night 3 for the Wii. There was a lot of video game playing happening this weekend which is a rare treat at our house.
The game playing carried over to this morning, which is probably why I was lucky enough to be able to sleep in a little bit (remember my kids are up at 5:30 normally so just about anything is sleeping in!). The boys spent a good bit of time in the pool again today playing and having a good time. I worked on Corbin’s birthday party invitation and sent out his invite on Facebook to mommies and daddies today:
He’s celebrating his party at school on Thursday so I had to have the invite ready to send home with all his classmates. This is one of the big things that’s been hanging over my head. I knew I had to get this done but thought it would take longer than it actually did. I’m glad it’s done and out of the way; now I just need to get it printed. Corbin also decided he wanted to take cake pops for his birthday treat so I baked the cake for that and tomorrow night will try my hand at them for the first time.
All in all, it was a good weekend. I was able to get things done but never seem to get enough done. There’s always more to do, which is partly my fault. I don’t see things changing any time soon though. I love everything I’m involved with and really couldn’t picture my life without the “stuff” and people I’ve got in it.
So how did you spend your weekend??
