This is usually my husband’s response when I tell him my latest idea or activity I’ve volunteered for because he suffers from Party Planning Angst. He’s not really sure where I find the time or energy (frankly I’m not either most of the time) but we always make it work somehow. Anyone who knows me knows that I love my kids and would do anything for them. I also love to plan parties so birthday parties are huge at my house. The kids start talking months in advance about what theme they want, decorations, friends, games and the fun that will be had.
My son’s 7th birthday is coming up and he’s requested a Phineas and Ferb birthday this year. We love Phineas and Ferb in our house so I was on board with the idea. I’ve been looking at local stores to see if they had anything on hand to use for the party. Walmart has a few things but nothing really special.
I like every bit of the party to feel special so I’m going to stick with my tradition and make the invitations myself. You can find custom invitations on Ebay, Etsy or other websites. If you’ve got the patience and creativity, you can make them yourself too. Super cute invitations are a must – they set the tone for the entire party!
Once he had his theme set, hubby and I picked the party date. Our schedules fill up so quickly so I try to get things on the calendar as soon as possible. Because his birthday’s in the summer, we also send his invitations home before school’s out for the summer so his classmates are all invited. We’ve got this year’s date all set – July 16th.
Another important part to my kiddos is the food. Insert a groan from hubby here. If we have a party during meal time, I feel like it’s only appropriate to serve something a bit more than cake and ice cream. If it’s between meals, cake and ice cream is totally fine in my book. I’m not sure of the time for this year’s party because we’re not 100% sure of what we’ll be doing. I had my little guy on board for watching a movie outdoors but it might get dark too late to do that. The other option would be renting the pool we rented last summer. It was a huge hit but I hate doing the same party two years in a row…I can do better than that!
Last night I was looking for party ideas and Googled “Phineas and Ferb cakes” and found an awesome cake if we go with the pool party. It looks simple enough for me to try and make and my kids have all the confidence that mommy can do it! My husband on the other hand, he’s not so sure. He would rather call Publix and let them take care of the cake. I’ve got a tote of cake pans and another full of tools to decorate cakes. This is something I’ve always loved doing but never seem to have the time to do. I’m really thinking I might give this a shot this year.
In my excitement, I also looked up “cake pops”. I’ve seen the cookbook and read about them being at different events. I got the book for Mother’s Day and think I can manage to give those a try as well!! I love when my creative juices are flowing!!
Not wanting to be left out, my younger son reminded me that he wants a pirate party for his birthday in November. We promptly searched for a pirate cake and found matching cake pops for those!!! Again, this looks like something I can probably do which is so exciting for me.
I’m excited to see how the party all comes together this year! I’ll be sure to keep you posted on the progress and how the party goes this summer.
