Happy Monday!! It was another busy weekend at our house – hard to believe I know! Friday I worked in the morning before going to lunch with some friends to celebrate my birthday then off to my son’s school to volunteer. Saturday consisted of going to see a Christmas program followed by grocery shopping. That left the baking and wrapping to take place on Sunday. Thankfully I managed to get just about everything done because every night this week is already booked.
In the past I’ve baked our co-workers goodies instead of buying everyone gifts. This year I switched it up and didn’t make nearly the amount of different treats and everyone got something different in their treat bags instead of everyone getting the same thing. On one hand it was nice to not make as many different things but on the other hand I missed making all the different things I would have normally included. If you’re looking for some tasty treats to make, try out some of these recipes that I made today:
Friendship Bread – you may recognize this since you’ve probably had it before. I’ve got a recipe to make it right away instead of using a starter and keeping it over several days before actually baking the bread. This is one of my most favorite breads. Be sure to dust the pan and top of the dough with the cinnamon sugar mixture. It makes the bread get a nice crunchy “shell”. Another tip – this is delicious toasted when you’ve sliced it!
Applesauce Bread – this was a new recipe and I didn’t have any leftovers so I hope it’s good!!
Butter cookies – super simple. Wish I would have added some cute red and green or holiday shaped sprinkles before I baked them.
Snow Balls – again, super easy and the kids love rolling them in powdered sugar.
Cookie Dough Bars – this was another new recipe that I found on Pinterest. Hubby liked this one; I thought it was ok but I wasn’t in love with it. I made these in a 9×13 pan even though it said to do it in a smaller pan. Having the thinner layer seemed like more than enough to me. I cut them pretty small for the bags (I would for normal serving too – they’re pretty sweet).
Shortbread Toffee Bars – these are so easy to make and I could eat the entire pan of them. The recipients will be super impressed because they look fancy.
Snickerdoodle Blondies – hubby liked these too but I wasn’t sold on them (he does like snicker doodles though)
Banana Oatmeal cookies – I’ve had this recipe for several years and love making it. The cookies also stay fresh for a really long time.
Ok I cheated on the rest!! I used the bagged mix for the oatmeal and oatmeal chocolate chip! Hopefully no one will notice (or won’t care!).
I made 13 bags for co-workers and a plate of everything for the lady who watches the baby during the day. The co-worker plates all had a loaf of bread and four of three different kinds of goodies. Not too shabby! If you want more ideas, come follow me on Pinterest! Sorry for the lack of pictures today – my iPhone isn’t cooperating with my laptop to download the pictures 🙁
Have you started your holiday baking? What are your favorites or “must dos”?
