Within the Disney Obsessed community, there are usually two groups – those who want everyone else to love Disney as much as they do and those who hope others don’t find out about the magic so they can keep it to themselves. In case you haven’t guessed, I totally fall into the first category. I want to everyone to have the same magical feelings I do when you look at Cinderella Castle or watch Wishes. Because I’m not shy about sharing my love of all things Disney, people will often ask me for advice or comment that they really need to get their kids to Disney “before it’s too late” (it’s never too late if you ask me!!).
Growing up there wasn’t much of a fuss made over birthdays, let alone milestone birthdays. Well that’s where I made a change in my family history. We celebrate all the birthdays, especially the milestones! My oldest son and my husband share a birthday and in 2017 they’re both having milestone birthdays! Celebrating at home would be special but celebrating at our happy place would be even better!! I started thinking about putting the trip together and a couple of families that love Disney like we do came to mind. Then we decided we should invite the grandparents because they wouldn’t want to miss out on such a special trip. Quickly the invite list grew to about 20 families.
I love Disney more than most people (again I’m stating the obvious) but it gives me incredible anxiety to bring other people with us on vacation. My quest for creating a perfectly magical vacation for them becomes consuming and inevitably something goes wrong. After some discussion, my husband and I decided to go with it. We put together packets for each family invited to give them information about Disney and the basic trip information. I also reached out to our travel agent to make sure that he was willing to take on a challenge like this and help get everything set up and be the main point of contact.
For our trip, I set up a secret Facebook group that the members would be able to see but no one else. This gives us a place to “talk”, share information and ask questions about the trip without it showing up to everyone on Facebook. Within the group I’ll be sharing information from here as well as other places that I’ve been gathering to help everyone have the best time possible.
Two years out may seem like a long time but it’s really not. Every day people say to me “I can’t believe the year’s almost over already” or “Can you believe it’s already August?”. Nope. I sure can’t. 2016 is going to be here before you know it! It’s also a tad bit pricey to pack up and take your family of four on vacation across the country. The sooner you can start saving the better. We can’t start making any kind of reservations yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start saving. Hopefully the advance notice will help everyone be able to attend when the time comes.
As time passes and the trip gets closer, I’ll share progress with you. I’ll also share things that I’m sharing with the group for those looking to plan a trip for a large group too. I know it won’t be easy but it’s all going to work out in the end how it’s supposed to.
