I know it’s Friday and everyone’s always excited about that. For a minute, we’re going to be serious but I promise it will end on a happy note – just stick with me! Back in December a friend of mine woke up and realized her newborn baby had slept through the night. After being excited for a second (hey – we’ve all been there and know the excitement of getting a few uninterrupted hours of sleep with a new baby in the house!), she went to check on her little one and realized he wasn’t breathing. Sadly her three week old passed away just after Christmas and it has had a huge impact on their entire family. I heard this news while I was pregnant with our little princess and worked myself into even more of an over-protective mommy fit than I ever did with the boys. I Googled and searched and read everything I could on SIDS and wanted to do everything I could (just like every other parent) to keep this from happening to our family and to see how I could even put in to words my sadness for the family and somehow offer support. In my research, I came across Kellie’s site Another Day Stronger. Kellie was a teacher and had her baby in a home daycare while she was at school. Sadly, she got a phone call one day that totally changed her life. Her four month old daughter had stopped breathing while taking a nap and the sitter had called 911 for them to take Maddie to the hospital. Tragically Maddie wasn’t able to leave with her mommy and daddy and it was determined that she passed from SIDS. Kellie’s blog instantly drew me in; she’s very honest and real about her feelings about everything that’s happened. In October, Kellie shared with everyone that they were expecting again!! I can even begin to tell you how happy I was for people I’d never really met before. Jackson arrived in May (I told you we’d end on a happy note!!) and he’s beyond adorable! Kellie’s got lots of info on her site about SIDS and is very open to answering readers questions. She also posts some really great recipes on there and has had some giveaways as well. Please take a moment to stop by her site and check out her adorable little family! They are all beyond fantastic and completely inspiring.
Enjoy your weekend!!
