Being a true Disney loving person, I took the boys to see the original Disney Planes movie last year and was just as surprised as everyone else when they were already talking about Planes: Fire and Rescue before this movie had a chance to be a hit. Sadly Planes wasn’t one of my favorite movies. It was ok but that was it but because my husband is a firefighter and I work at the fire station, I knew we’d be going to see the new version when it came out this year.
Ironically, while we were at Disney a month ago, the Disney Parks Blog (DPB) hosted a meet up for a screening of Planes: Fire and Rescue. Being Star Wars Weekend, the boys headed to Hollywood Studios while Carolina and I headed to the movie. Not only had I never been to a DPB meet up, Carolina had never been to the movies before. I wasn’t sure what I was in for but seeing the huge number of kids in the lines, I figured things would be ok.
Disney knows how to host it’s guests. We all got popcorn and a drink (even Carolina got her own which she loved!) before we headed into the theaters to enjoy the show. Because it was so far in advance of the actual movie, we had to check our cell phones (think coat check at a fancy party but with phones) so no pictures of my baby’s first trip to the movies. Mom fail.
Surprisingly she did wonderfully. We did have to set out for a minute for a potty break but other than that, this movie really held her attention. Her only problem was that it was 3D and she kept taking the glasses off. I finally quit trying to get her to put them back on and just let her enjoy the experience.
Even though I wasn’t a fan of Planes, I really did like this movie. I did shed a few tears but I think that’s more because of the situation presented in the movie and me thinking of family and friends who are first responders being in that situation. There was a good mix of laughs even while delivering a serious message about fire safety which was nice.
In case you haven’t seen them, here are the trailers for the movie:
I hope you go enjoy the movie as much as we did. We’ll be at the movie theater tonight so the boys can see it too. Our fire department is hosting lots of fun family things before the movie which is wonderful! Be sure to stop back and let me know what you think and who your favorite character is.
