In the planning and announcements associated with this year’s Disney Social Media Moms Celebration (DSMMC), a fun run was shared with the attendees. Everyone was quickly chiming in about participating and my inner self doubt and wanting to hang with the “cool kids” kicked in. I’m not a runner unless chasing after kids constantly counts. Shelley from On the Go in the MCO graciously volunteered to be my personal cheerleader and even walk if that’s what needed to happen. Now there was no way to say no! Some life changes had to happen quickly for this to happen.
Tuesday after work I was running a few errands. I had to return some things to Marshalls and decided to look for some shoes. I found not one but two pairs that were perfect for what I was looking for! One brown pair to match a couple of dresses for the DSMMC and a pair of tennis shoes for the fun run I was now participating in. Old Navy is in the same complex so I popped in there quick to look for some earrings. There at the entrance was a big sign about athletic wear being on sale and a shirt with “Believe in Yourself” in my size (not an easy size to normally find in Old Navy) was staring me in the face. The shirt and a pair of yoga pants came home with me to wear during the fun run.
Now that the “fun” part was done, I had to figure out how to get this “run” part figured out. I also shared my plans on social media and the support came out in droves (thank you again!!!). Since the world now knew my goal, there was no backing down. Tuesday night the kids and I went on a walk when they got home from school around our neighborhood. Wednesday afternoon I walked on the beach after work before the kids got out of school and even jogged a couple of times! Thursday was tricky with my son’s performance at school but I managed to fit in a quick walk before I got them from school and jogged a few times. Here we are at Friday and I plan on taking a nice walk tonight while I clear my head and get everything laid out in my mind for our housewarming party Saturday night.
With the first week under my belt, I’m hoping I can keep this up and actually run part of the fun run during DSMMC and maybe even participate in a runDisney event some day. I’m so thankful to Mickey (and Leanne, Jamie and Maria) for planning this and giving me to the much needed motivation to get moving. Can’t wait to update you after the conference to tell you how amazing the event was!
