As I type, I’ve got a tote full of party supplies all lined up and ready to go for Friday and Saturday. There’s also a cake in the oven baking away so I can make cake balls tomorrow night and turn them in to beach balls on Friday for the cake. The stress and self doubt is also creeping back in. And the party’s still 3 days away….
I spent most of the weekend looking at cake decorating tips on YouTube, sifting through tons of websites trying to read and learn as much as I can about the “right” or “best” way to ice, stack, decorate, store and transport the birthday cake. The cake is such an important part of the birthday celebration so I feel like there’s a lot of pressure for it to be beyond awesome. I’ve also had some pretty great cakes in the past (check out this week’s Wordless Wednesday post to see them) so I’ve got a lot to live up to.
My next concern is the heat. Today we had an excessive heat advisory because the heat index was 109 – 114 degrees. It’s not supposed to be quite as hot on Saturday but there’s a 40% chance of thunderstorms. So long as it holds off until the afternoon, I’m happy! Another problem with the heat is that the pool will feel like bath water because it’s been so warm. I hope everyone still has a great time.
All the lists are made and instead of just taking the afternoon off Friday, I decided to take the entire day off. I’ve got a ton of things I want to try and get caught up on in the morning (some Disney Driven Life stuff to work on and some new posts for WDW Fan Zone mostly) before I jump into the birthday stuff (or maybe I’ll mix that work in with the birthday stuff…who knows!). I just hope I can get it all done without going crazy. This is one of those times I wish I had a girlfriend who could hang out with me for the day. The running around and shopping and stuff is always more fun with a friend.
In the end I know it will all come together and the kids will have a good time. I just always feel like the other mommies are eyeing me up and judging. I’m already the “bad” mom because I’ve got to work during the day instead of going to pool hops and play dates. Hopefully if they judge they’ll do it on their own time so I don’t have to hear and I can keep telling myself how awesome everything was.
Be sure to check back on Sunday for some pictures from the big event and tomorrow for a special birthday post to two of my special boys.
